Under YP4FUN, Romanian Society of Radioamateurs runs a series of  activities and demonstrations to promote  ham radio.

One of our objectives (Romanian Society of Radioamateurs) is to promote the radioamateur’s activity among  the youths. A  specific goal is to set a network of radioamateurs in remote places, capable to act as members in a future national emmergency network.
Especially the schools in remote areas are targeted. A few years ago I found on the internet the GB4FUN project and I was very impressed about the eficacity of a such mean.
So,  I began to think about… Vehicle, bad roads, remote areas. The answer was: a 4x4 car. As I searched and documented, I remembered that, when I was in the army, we had such vehicles! So I bought one (ARO) and start making a mobile comm center. The car’s engine can act as a 12V/2kWgenerator (even 220V is present, a 1kW true sinus is installed inside).
The result: a very agile demonstration car, with HF-UHF capabilities (FT857D, TM D710, LDG Z100 and FC-40 with some home made antennas). Inside, two operators can work independently.  The car is able to  handle radio messages in  Digimodes with the help of a rugged laptop (Thinkpad X40) and a homemade interface. But not only demonstration! This vehicle is able to climb on mountains and act as a commcenter; cand patch mobile phones  or landlines to radio via Zetron model 30 worldpatch  and a Siemens GSM to landline adapter.
Of course, this project needs a name (a callsign): As a homage to our UK colleagues, the callsign of our project is YP4FUN!
